Description
Not too far up the road from our last Lake District cottage for couples is the bustling village of Staveley. It’s a great little place loved by both locals and visitors with trendy cafes, bakeries and mountain bike shops. Well, trendy by country standards anyway. But it’s also the way into the quiet Kentmere valley, a bit of a hidden gem. Carry on up from the weir (where you can spot kingfishers) and cross the bridge as the road narrows and winds its way up the valley. At the head of the valley you’ll find a collection of scattered farmhouses and cottages and one of these cute boltholes is our next Lake District couples retreat. The Nook is a picture perfect Lake District cottage with stone built walls, beamed ceilings, a large Inglenook fireplace with wood burner and of course an Aga cooker. It’s recently been sympathetically updated with a gorgeous bathroom and furnished with genuine farmhouse antiques so it’s lost none of its authentic charm.
There are no shops, cafes or restaurants in Kentmere and we think that only adds to the experience. Coming into this glorious valley is like stepping back into time and it’s one of the main reasons why we’re so excited about this cottage for couples. Here you just come to slow down, relax and unwind by taking in the views and going for some of our favourite walks in the Lakes. We love doing the Kentmere horseshoe, a circular walk you can start right from your own doorstep. It’s an ‘all day-er’ which takes around 6-8 hours but it’s well worth it as it offers some of the most breathtaking views in the area. And we think The Nook is just the kind of place you’d want to come back to after one of those glorious days on the fells.
If The Nook is booked, try its baby brother ‘Shepherd’s Nook’ – just a tad smaller but equally cute.
